Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under domestic detention.

The one-time leader was found guilty of orchestrating a government overthrow in the ninth month and given more than 27 years in jail, but he was staying under house arrest pending legal challenges.

This encompassed trying to remove his tracking device and a call for a public vigil that could enable a potential flight.

Legal Document Reveals Escape Concerns

In a document approving the arrest, the magistrate said information from the facility tracking the former president's confinement suggested the ex-president's "intention to break the surveillance device to ensure success in his escape.

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the disorder caused by the protest called by his offspring.

His offspring, his son Flávio, who serves as a senator, called for a meeting of his followers near his father's house to take place on Saturday evening.

The senator wrote on online platforms on the previous day: Will you battle for your homeland, or observe everything from your mobile device there on your couch? I invite you to struggle with us."

He said the gathering would be so supporters could "pray for his physical condition and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our country."

Foreign Shelter Risks

Part of the judge's determination was the possibility of the former president's transfer to foreign missions near the home, considering that the inquiries revealed a background of organizing to request asylum through a diplomatic representation", a statement said.

The judicial paperwork underscores that the United States embassy in the national capital, Brasilia, is positioned around 8 miles from his dwelling.

International Reactions

His judicial problems have provoked anger from fellow populist conservative United States President Donald Trump, prompting him to enact a half-rate duty on Brazilian product imports.

The former president is being held in a Federal Police station in the capital and will experience a custody hearing on the next day.

Recent Judicial Appeals

It was only on the previous day that the former president's lawyers asked the Top Court to allow him to fulfill his full incarceration period under house arrest, with digital surveillance.

They also requested that he be authorized to exit his dwelling for healthcare, saying he required ongoing care for lung conditions and other health problems.

Details of Guilty Verdict

He was found guilty of heading a plot aimed at keeping him in power after he lost the 2022 election to his ideological adversary, Lula.

Supreme Court justices said that he knew of a plot which involved plans to murder the current president and his running partner, his vice-presidential candidate, and to imprison and murder the presiding judge - the High Court judge who has been overseeing the former president's case.

The conspiracy was thwarted because it couldn't obtain the endorsement of the armed forces officials. The current president was inaugurated without incident on the first day of 2023.

But a following week, on the eighth of January, thousands of his backers invaded and destroyed official structures in the federal district, the capital city.

The security forces took action and around 1,500 people were detained.

The judges found that the rioters had been provoked by the former president whose plan, they said, was for the national armed forces to take action, restore order and bring him back to power.

At the time, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the 27 years and three months sentence extremely harsh.

He was also prohibited from seeking elected position until twenty-sixty - eight years after the completion of his term.

The ex-leader called the trial a political persecution and said it was intended to stop him competing in the next presidential race.
