It's difficult for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have been successfully scaled.

This is the unit that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to another six T20 titles, and earlier maintained over three years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, the ones sought by the achievement hunters, are all that remain for a team that has accomplished all there is.

The fact it required until Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase over 300, taking back their record for the largest in the women's 50-over format, is, frankly, a testament to the pitchers that have sported the yellow jersey over the last half-century.

It is hard for their batsmen to maintain a record if not afforded the chance.

In the end, the result of Australia allowing 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy getting a platform to produce her most recent brilliance.

Originally famous as the young family member of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her country didn't secure either of the T20 or ODI World Cups held the previous year and has seen it all through 15 successful years since.

A T20 World Cup win happened three months after her first appearance and seven international trophies have followed from 10 tries across formats.

The tough gloveman was also there in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India temporarily stopped the successful run.

That loss "motivated us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy stated recently.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the title decider and was declared player of the series. She ensured her country would not come up short.

The question of whether this latest epic knock topped that previous effort is debatable.

Some will argue the case for the pressure of a final. Different voices suggest with the test that comes when confronting a historic chase and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What's definite is this hundred was considerably tougher to anticipate.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 occurred when she topped the run-scoring charts, but this innings was preceded by six games in India over the past few weeks in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've observed me in training, it has been a disappointing period because it seemed I've had no rhythm at all," commented Healy.

"Yet the moment you enter the playing area, your competitive nature activate and you simply focus on the contest."

Healy's competitive nature has always been her great strength - and an irreplaceable characteristic in taking over from famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, fallen to the 22-year-old seamer in all three matches, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's inspiration.

One run resulted off the bowler's initial ball and after that the right-hander was on her way.

"A chance to play and lock in a contest with her and just have a bit of fun that way, sort of got me going," commented Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 pitches - her fastest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 as she punished short deliveries, hitting 21 fours and three sixes.

Once she was dismissed her side required another 66 at run per delivery - a manageable total now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Pursuing 330 is uncharted waters so I am glad we have the assurance to do that now," added Healy.

"Ideally we won't need to do it again but, should it happen, we are confident we can do it."

These statements will be the ultimate thing Australia's opponents at this tournament want to hear.

In recent days a belief they will triumph from any situation has become more firm - this triumph following victory over Pakistan by 107 runs despite being 76-7 at one stage.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before an encounter with longtime competitors England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final berth may likely be confirmed.

It was at that stage they exited the prior year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - an encounter Healy was absent due to damaged tissue in her foot as she led her country for the initial instance at a major tournament.

So great is her will, she afterwards commented she regretted not playing despite the injury.

Yet even as she subsequently acknowledged those physical issues have pushed back consideration of ending her career, this tournament is expected to be her final tournament as skipper in one-day cricket and she is yet to win a global event as skipper.

Victory in India would take her to the summit of her ultimate challenge.
